From Toxicity to Healing—A New Inquiry into Organizational Culture

If an organization can become toxic, why can’t it also become healing?

This question grounds a series of research endeavors exploring the transition from workplace incivility toward organizational development rooted in psychological renewal, respect, and shared purpose. Toxicity—marked by exclusion, mistrust, and emotional harm—has been well-documented as a driver of disengagement, attrition, and inequality.

Yet, less explored is the converse: how organizations might cultivate healing through intentional leadership, structural redesign, and relational practices that restore human energy and dignity. Across this series, we examine how cultural transformation is not merely the removal of harm but the active creation of environments where people can flourish.

Drawing from theories of organizational behavior, emotional labor, and systems change, we aim to surface actionable insights for leaders seeking to move beyond harm reduction to human-centered thriving.
